Orbit is Germany's premier boutique law firm specializing in funds, offering comprehensive legal advice to fund managers and investors. Their consultancy spans corporate, regulatory, and tax law, as well as compliance and sustainability issues, serving notable clients like the European Investment Fund (EIF), Burda Principal Investments, Merantix, and Earlybird.
As Head of Digital Product and Design at Orbit, I addressed the complexity of fund investment due diligence and investor onboarding. For Limited Partners (LPs) and Fund of Funds (FoF) managers, due diligence is critical but challenging due to opaque fund terms and market positions. Similarly, investor onboarding was bogged down by cumbersome, paper-based processes, hindering efficiency for both investors and fund managers.

This tool enhances the due diligence process by visually representing fund terms within the market context, aiding smarter investment decisions. Most due diligence reports are lengthy and cryptic, but our goal was to demystify fund terms for investors, making them easy to understand and compare.
This product allows fund managers to analyze fund terms against market standards, generating valuable insights. Orbit's Fund Scoring has been well-received for its user-friendly approach to complex financial information, such as aligning market standard fees, assessing the aggressiveness of waterfall structures, and comparing fund terms.
This web-based platform streamlines the onboarding process, replacing traditional PDF forms with a fast, efficient, and secure digital solution. Our goal was to tailor the process to suit each investor type, ensuring the most efficient and personalized journey, providing relevant information every step of the way.
Within the initial months following our launch, we successfully onboarded dozens of investors, each contributing significantly, with some investments reaching into the millions of euros. The onboarding process was notably efficient, averaging around twenty minutes to complete.
Our web-based onboarding platform moved away from traditional PDF forms, ensuring data encryption and safety.
This project represented a blend of technology, design, and law, going beyond merely digitalizing processes to reimagine client-firm interactions for enhanced user-friendliness and innovation. Highlighting the transformative power of thoughtful design in the legal sector, the initiative showcased how forward-thinking approaches can revolutionize traditional practices.
